PerfecDraw – Draw Adjustment Tool

The PerfecDraw is a tool that I has heard a lot about in cigar smoking circles.  I have tried traditional pokers and have not been happy with the performance.  Many times it creates tunneling and poor flavors so I am a little concerned about any of these tools.  This is created by a dentist who is used to dealing with small sharp instruments and should know the best structure of a tool of this nature.  Traditional pokers also tend to create cracking of the wrapper and can be a pain to handle so I'm hoping this provides something better.

Appearance:

The tool is in a black metal case with a screw cap that opens to the sharp tool itself.  The case side of the black metal holder has a clip, much like a pen for a nice pocket option.  The is that of a small pen and is very sleek in look.  When open, the look of the tool is very nice with an arrow tip at the top and 5 smaller tips that are angled to allow for a nice clockwise motion for insertion.  Overall a very nice looking tool!

Quality of Materials:

The materials are very nice and solid yet light in the hand.  I have no doubt this is a tool that will last a long time.  The case is strong yet light and the rod of the tool is the same.  The quality is top notch on this one!

Function:

After you open the PerfecDraw you notice the sharpness of the rod tip.  The arrow style tips work very well for penetrating the cigar and don't create too much friction that causes a wrapper crack.  (Unless you are being careless)  The back side of each arrow tip has a sharp reverse barb type of back side improving the ability of the tool to gently pull out jammed tobacco.  As you pull the rod out after you insert it to the cigar I found it best to twist it both directions while pulling the tool out.  This shreds blockages and also pulls out tobacco easing the draw.  It also only makes adjustment in moderate increments as to not create a too open draw.  This allows you to get your "perfect draw" if you will...

This also works well as a cigar holder/nubber as is screws in and keeps a seal.  Nice double function!  I have to say, the function surpassed my expectations by a mile!

Value:
At a cost of 40 dollars at the time of the review, this tool is not a cheap one.  That said you are not getting a cheap tool, you are getting one that works.  Simply said, this tool is well worth the money as it will last a very long time and actually works!  Tunneling is not in your future...at least it didn't for us.

Summary:

This tool is a great one.  I was skeptical as most pokers have not worked for me.  The size makes this a win win.  Something you can carry with you to a shop and not have to worry about lugging something large or heavy.  In addition to a great draw tool it is also a great nubber and I have used it more than a few times and saw no leakage of air...

Simply put, great tool that is a MUST BUY!    Check them out at PerfecDraw.com

Xikar Xi2 – Cigar Cutter

Every cigar smoker knows the name Xikar and they tend to make quality tools for the cigar industry.  That said, their specialty are cutters and this one is a moderately priced cutter.  One thing that makes them stand out is their lifetime warranty which they do stand behind.  Recently they proudly replaced a cutter that fell into a fire pit...pretty damn good for any company.  Xikar is a quality company so we want to review their products to confirm each one meets their high standards.

Appearance:

The cutter is a tear drop shaped cutter with a slightly textured finish in the granite grey color.  The look is pretty plain looking but also has a quality look to it.  This cutter does not have the small bolts around the sides as some other cutters that make have but I think that makes the cutter look nicer with a sleeker clean look.

Quality of Materials:

The cutter materials are high quality and the slide button release works every time.  The blades are sharp and make cutting easy as it does not take too much force to make a cut.  The finish is easy to grip due to the texture finish it is covered in.  The open and close function give you a confidence in the quality of materials.  (Even the sound)

Function:

Each function works well, from the open button that slides down to open the cutter.  The cutting action is high quality due to the sharpness of the blades.  The closing action does tend to have one side that closes faster than the other so you want to take the time to line up the cigar before cutting.  (Likely due to keeping the blades tight for a great cut)  The ability of the gauge is up to a 58 ring gauge so it should work for most cigars.  The shape allows for a one hand cut while holding the cigar with the other hand and works every time.

One thing to note, be careful if you hold the cutter deep in your hand as you can pinch the meat of your hand.  I tend to use my finger tips and do not have any issues.

Value:
The cost is around 30 dollars and is found everywhere  At this price, for a high quality cutter it is a no-brainer.

Summary:

This cutter is sleek, sharp, crisp action, and easy to carry in your pocket.  You really can't ask for much more than that for a cutter and as with most Xikar products, this is a high quality one.  I like the textured finish for a good grip so be sure to determine which finish you want and note some have a slight texture to them.

This is a great cutter that is a MUST BUY!    Check them out at Xikar.com for their full offering as well as info on the Xi2 cutter.

Colibri Accessories – V Cutter / Monaco Lighter / Windsor Ashray

Accessories are important to every cigar smoker and Colibri has a large assortment of quality products.  We reviewed a cutter, lighter, and ashtray from their lines.  All were quality and showing a company's reach for every need was a great way to show options for our community...

Appearance:

  • The V cutter is in the smooth carbon fiber finish and looks really good and a nice feel of a quality product.
  • The Monaco lighter is also in the smooth carbon fiber finish and is fairly slim and looks really sharp.
  • The Windsor ashtray is really good looking and looks like an ashtray that you would find in a high end shop.  The ashtray has locations for two accessories and offers three cigar positions.

Quality of Materials:

  • The cutter is made of quality materials and has heavy weight to it.  The release button works every time and provides a solid feel making you feel confident it wont break.  The release is powerful and the blade is super sharp and the torx screws make the assembly feel solid.
  • The Monaco lighter provides the feel of a nice reliable pocket lighter with accurate triple flames.
  • The Windsor ashtray is very heavy and the best quality products found on the best ashtrays.  The main cigar holder is removable and has some weight so you can use it on its own as a holder.

Function:

  • The cutter has a heavy duty feel to every action and the cut is sharp and accurate.  The cut is deep so a smaller cigar may not be the best with this cutter.  (under a 46 ring gauge)  The cigar clipping will naturally fall out and the release button works every time!
  • The Monaco lighter has the flip up lid and the light works every time.  The burners provide a clean accurate flame and are slightly angled towards the middle.  The button to slide down to light the lighter is solid and is easy to use.
  • The ashtray works well with the right size cigar and there is an insert for the ash holder, great way to keep it clean!

Value:

  • The V Cutter is listed at $49 and is well worth every penny!
  • The Monaco lighter is listed at $79 and is priced a little high for a pocket lighter but the quality makes it worth it.
  • The Windsor ashtray is listed at $99 and is pricey for an ashtray but this is not your normal ashtray.  If you want a classy way to smoke your cigars, go for it.

Summary:

These accessories are high quality and are worth every penny.  You can't go wrong with either and the V cutter is one I purchased on sale and love it!  Class it up with the Windsor ashtray and you will feel like en executive enjoying your top cigars.  These are all must buy accessories and I suggest checking them out at www.colibri.com.
